We are THE DeVols
Thanks for the memories!
After 25 years on the air, Oprah Winfrey ended her famous talk show today on ABC. She has touched the lives of millions and millions of viewers and one has to wonder, what will we do without Oprah in the afternoons? I, for one, just do not know! Who will tell us what to do, wear, think, or see!? It’s hard to put into words what makes Oprah so special, but I think we would all agree that there is now a very large, irreplaceable void left by her. She is a rare treasure. Her last show was appropriately just a simple walk down memory lane where she shared laughter, love, and tears with the audience. Perhaps, my favorite part was how she took 25 years of life lessons and condensed them into one final lesson for her viewers. As she did this, I reflected back to the Live Your Best Life charity walk that I celebrated with Oprah last year and the lesson she had taught me. She had said, “Fill your own cup first, and let that overflow to the people around you.” It’s those types of lessons that makes Oprah so unique. It’s officially the end of an era as The Oprah Winfrey Show comes to a close today. I think Oprah said it best as she ended her show by saying, “I won’t say goodbye … until we meet again” … And until we meet again, I plan to hold out hope that she’ll be back doing what she does best while on her own, no pun intended, network. Thanks for the memories, Oprah! Best wishes to you!

I’m watching the final Oprah’s “Favorite Things” episode with my Mom. Fun times :)

I really believe when you give to other people, you give to yourself.

Pictured Above (Clockwise Top L to R): 1) Oprah Winfrey speaking with NY news anchor, Sade Baderinwa, and addressing the crowd post walk. Dr Oz is also in the background. 2) One entire corner of Times Square lit up with Oprah ads. It was pretty kool! 3) Look at all those people waiting after the walk to hear Oprah speak and that’s just the ones that were directly behind us! 4) Yours truly at the walk finish line in Times Square
Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine celebrated its 10th anniversary this past weekend with a “Live Your Best Life” weekend in New York City. The DeVols celebrated with Oprah at the charity walk on Sunday. We raised money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and walked in memory of my grandmother who passed away from this dreadful disease. It was said that over $120,000 was raised for the OCRF, which I think is phenomenal. Many celebrities were in attendance for the celebration: Dr Oz, Suze Orman, Jennifer Hudson, Elizabeth Banks, Cathy Black, Donna Brazile, Tracy Chapman, Bette Midler, Mary J Blige, and Gayle King. The two mile walk finished with style right in the heart of Times Square. Leave it to the one and only Oprah Winfrey to be able to shut down Times Square traffic! The celebration concluded with a brief Oprah speech to the crowd and a Jennifer Hudson ‘Happy Birthday’ serenade to O Magazine. Awesome event and good for the soul!
